About Me

Photo%2012-2-20%2C%204%2037%2035%20pm

I am a paper artist.  I began as a painter and illustrator.  When I started to use collage in my paintings to create detailed patterning, I came to see that paper cutting is a more direct way to create complex patterns.  I now work with papercutting and collage to create my images.  I love working with paper and a scalpel.  I love the graphic simplicity of cutting out shapes to leave a connected image in a single sheet of paper.  The shapes taken away from the composition are just as important as the paper that is left untouched. I see a dialogue emerging between form and space.

My work in the past has been about day-to-day life in urban Australia.  Recently I have become fascinated by the complex organic patterning you find when you look at ocean waves and tides.  That desire to embrace nature’s connectedness and my relationship to it, is central to my exploration of the ever-changing moods within the movement and light of the ocean and water.
